10 Tips for Effective Networking

Some of us may wonder how to really launch out into the world of professional networking. We know it has payoffs, but it can be awkward, intimidating and frankly, just too much energy! As Amanda is learning in her Dale Carnegie leadership course, sometimes you just need a simple plan, to learn some steps that will help you appear confident with others until you truly are.  Maybe some of these tips will give you a starting place.  Perhaps you want to write out your "elevator speech". Maybe it will sound something like this:  Hi, I'm Joel Doland and I am a project manager for a $120mm commercial contracting firm that is licensed to work in 19 states across the country.  My current projects are in hospitality and healthcare (etc. etc.).  One of my driving professional strengths is that I am a goal-setter continually asking myself, "where am I/are we headed?" This strength allows me a great deal of focus to continually perform to my own high standards. What about you? What's lights your fire?" Give it a try!
